Tom Katina” receiving Aurora” award

“Aurora” award winner in the 2017 is general surgeon and a Catholic missionary Tom Katina. For years of Sudan’s war in Nuba Mountains, he was the only surgeon performing 1000 surgeries    annually serving more than 400 patients a day. The prize was awarded to the winner by Charles Aznavour.

 

A doctor who moved from New York to Sudan – “Aurora” award winner is selected out of more than 550 nominations from 66 countries. Katina said when the war began, he was asked to leave the country, but insisted that he would stay.

 

As the “Aurora” winner Tom Katina said he will hand 1 million USD to three organizations involved in the provision of humanitarian activities. The award of $ 100 thousand given personally to him, the surgeon most likely will spend  to improve the hospital providing service to 500 thousand people.
