Female candidates from Tavush region
Out of the 61 candidates from 13 constituencies were nominated by parties and alliances participating in the elections of the National Assembly to be held on April 2d, 2017 and 18 of them are women.
On the eve of the elections, parties and candidates actively participate in the campaign by submitting their projects. However, the participation of women candidates in individual meetings with voters was passive. the voter could not recognize the majority of woman candidates running for elections. Only during large gatherings of party blocs voters had a chance to see the woman candidates.
However, Anzhela Khachatryan -female candidate nominated by the party “Free democrats in the constituency No. 13, was engaged in a very active campaign. This woman nominated as a candidate in Tavush region, met with her voters for several times. The present situation is unacceptable for a young woman. She notes that “Free Democrats” have been separated from the others by their lists with regard to youth involvement or the involvement of women. Anzhela Khachatryan has been “Free Democrats” party member since 2011, when he was 22 years old. She notes that it is necessary to create jobs, support to small and medium businesses so that young people can stay in the village and not strive to move to city, region or not emigrate from Armenia. “We want to introduce changes of thought style, and we – youth- are saying that we can do it”.
