Local government law should enshrine women’s representation requirement. Proposals are accepted
During the discussion of “the issue” On Amending the RA Law on Local Self-Government, represented by the Government, the National Assembly also touched upon the presence of women in local self-governance.
The draft law was presented by the First Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and development Vache Terteryan saying that the preparation and presentation of the draft is due to constitutional amendments. While developing draft provisions from international documents were more comprehensively taken into account.
During the discussion deputy of the “Heritage” faction Tevan Poghosyan, proposed the main rapporteur to increase women’s involvement in the new law on “Local Government”, reaching at least 20 percent.
In the three communities where we have proportional elections, we will automatically get to the city women involved in the quota size. Observing Results Consolidated communities, we see that women are not involved in consolidated communities of the City Council, the representation of women in general decreased. Do not you think that this law will be very important in terms of the fixing percentage of women’s involvement in the City Council, at least 20 percent”, – he said.
