“Women’s participation in local elections. Obstacles and Challenges “- discussion

Why did the number of women in local government over the years has not increased, and at what  extent the public is able to overcome the stereotypes that prevent women from entering politics. The participants of the discussion “Women’s participation in elections and political processes –  the obstacles and challenges” held in the Media Center tried to present their views on this issue.

 

At the local elections held on September 18th  and October 2d for City Council in 690 communities of 10 regions  5031 male candidates and 674 female ones were nominated as community members, including 490 women have been elected. Only 26 out of the 931 candidates, community leader nominated were women, of which only 9 are elected. Moreover, 8 of them were re-elected.
