Girls will be spoiled while studying in Yerevan
In September of this year Women’s Resource Center hold the 5-day tour in Gegharkunik region, against domestic violence. During 5-day tour of the center they had an interview with the local population, had also meetings with teachers, parents, and children, as well as clinics and village health workers with employees. We represent a social worker of the Sexual Assault Crisis Centre Anna Hovhannisyan’s observations.
I was looking forward to the launch of the women’s tour in Gegharkunik region. Perhaps the first meeting with the province of Gegharkunik took place in one of the schools Gavar. As a social worker, I visited this region for many times working with women victims of violence, but what I saw at one of the first school grades, made the real side of the women’s rights the most significant: in one of the first classes were 80% male students. The picture is made even more obvious problem of sex-selected abortions that was the 100/130 ratio (for every 100 girls in Gegharkunik region the ratio is 130 boys).
