Humanitarian Summit discussed the outline of a new future

The generation of young people live, believing that money, fame and power are more valued in the world than the right to justice and compassion,” said UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the opening of the World Humanitarian summit held in Istanbul on May 23-23.  He expressed hope that this representative gathering will enforce humanitarian values and unite the international community against untold suffering resulting in disasters, whether natural or caused by human hands.

Today, almost 130 million people rely on humanitarian aid. After World War II the world has not witnessed a similar number of refugees, as it is now. Each year, the needs are growing, and the funding of humanitarian work is declining. If in 2000 $ 2 billion was required for humanitarian aid, in 2014 it was 25 billion. However, according to Ban Ki-moon, the purpose of the summit was not fundraising.

We are gathered here together only to outline a new future. Today we are announcing that we are united and we must share the responsibility. Let’s now pledge to not only save lives, but also give them the opportunity to live in dignity”, – said Ban Ki-moon at the opening of the summit, which was attended by a number of famous celebrities including Forrest Uitaker, Ashley Jade and Daniel Craig.
