Who has suggested postponing “the better future” for women until 2022?
What proposals have been made to expand the political participation of women before the second reading of the draft of the new Electoral Code and who made the proposals? WomenNet.am- attempted to clarify this issue, studying the summary attached to the draft.
As noted during the second reading of the draft in the National Assembly launched a total of 260 recommendations were made between the first and second readings. Brief survey attached to the project shows only a part of those proposals. Six of them refer to the increasing proportion of the sexes in party lists. These proposals were made by MPs Ms Vardanyan, Karine Achemyan, Edgar Maruqyan, as well as the government. In fact, the government, on the one hand suggested increasing the proportion of the sexes in party lists until 30/70, on the other hand postponing “better future” for women by 2022.
In fact, all proposals with regard to the representation of women were made with the same explanation “Draft outlined the possibility of the gradual realization of this approach”. Let’s note that this argument of the gradual realization has not been justified over the last 20 years. The number of women over the five legislative sessions grew only by 4%. With such forward rates we will reach equality at least in 200 years.
