In Armenia 3500 children live separated from family
On the occasion of the International Day of Families the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF Representative in Armenia Tatiana Radochaya referred to children living in care establishments.
According to her, the best environment in which the child grows up healthy and develops, was and remains the family, and the world is developing in the way of abandonment and placement children without families in care institutions. While still in the 50s of the last century, scientists have proved that the kids have difficulties in care institutions, especially in terms of establishing family ties in adulthood, still the culture of the care family is a novelty in the region.
According to the data presented by Tatiana Radochaya, there are about 3500 children separated from their families and living in residential institutions. Over the last ten years, this number has decreased as a result of the ongoing reforms. Ten years ago the number of children under the care institutions reached 11 thousand.
