Khachatur Qoqobelyan: ”I am even for 50/50”

“Let no one try to keep stressing every now and thenthat they are women are not so active or quotas are going to be artificial and so on. You simply need to enable women to become active, but there is another problem … From this point of view I am even for 50/50”, – “said Khachatur Kokobelyan – the Head of ”Free Democrats” party, MP, during his conversation with WomenNet.am.

“As a liberal political party leader, as a figure bearing liberal ideas I support and I consider it necessary to increase women’s political involvement and would like very much that it were not done by the law, I would like it just to be so. For example, “40% of the Free Democrats” party members are women. Moreover, I have always been a supporter of women’s active involvement, but against the idea of ​​giving the show.

So I now express my position and I will also voice it during the discussion of the draft new Electoral Code in National Assembly, noting that I am not only for a 25/75 quota that is currently presented, but also I will support of all those who trumpet the proportion of 30/70. Be sure that the increase in women’s participation can only bring positive changes. And besides, I say this based on personal observations and experiences, women are moderating manifestations of the political campaign”.
