Mikhail Saakashvili urges to include women and men in the electoral lists in the 50/50 format

 

Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili gave some advice to his former party ahead of parliamentary elections. According to Georgian media on Wednesday, Saakashvili wrote on his Facebook page:

 

“Our party always comes up with innovative ideas and working style, and therefore now has to come up with several new initiatives. The first should be to ensure full equality for women. Within the overall process of modernization should be noted that 50 percent of parliamentary election candidates list must be women.

 

First of all, we would emphasize the role of women in Georgian society; it will assist us in updating and better prepare inevitable election victory. I am sure that we will not have trouble finding and. electing deserving women candidates In addition; we must immediately introduce the candidates to the public”, – wrote the former president on his Facebook page.

 

Without commenting on Saakashvili’s recommendations, it should be noted that according to Georgian sources, according to the changes set out in the 2011 Electoral Code, political parties receive additional financial resources to ensure women’s representation in lists.
