Aleppo is my birthplace, and Yerevan – my home
Alin Maranyan had come to visit relatives for the first time in 1995, when she was 14 years old and could not believe that 20 years later she would become a citizen of Armenia and would live and work together with her Assyrian husband in her homeland.
In August of this year, our friends from Armenia invited us; we lived at their place for a while and then rented an apartment, adapted to a local lifestyle and found a job.
In Syria the young couple used to work in their profession, the husband – as a hairdresser, wife – as a cosmetologist. They gave their own salon in Aleppo to someone else and now in Yerevan they work in a cozy and comfortable beauty salon “MS”. Without care and attention of friends, neighbors the young couple would have difficulties in adapting to a new environment.
“Many Syrian-Armenians cannot find a job for months, but we were lucky to meet good people who supported us much”, – Alin says.
