“Stereotypes are broken” – problems of people with disabilities in Armenia
Executive director of “Unison’ NGO Armen Alaverdyan today has come to the meeting with journalists to highlight the problems of people with disabilities. Before reaching Postscriptum club, the journalists witnessed how difficult it was for Armen Alaverdyan to reach the 3th floor on a moving wheelchair. The elevator of Tigran Mets publishing house, with the help of which he could reach the 3th floor, did not function. Two men helped him to reach there. During the press conference Alaverdyan labeled the phenomenon as discrimination.
The president of the organization compares problems existing in this sphere 20 years ago and now. “It is incomparable. Due to the work of media, non-governmental organizations we have changed our public mentality. I can say that personally for me it is a significance change: I can feel free to deal with my affairs in parks, and no one will look at me with pity. We broke this Soviet stereotype.
