The Ombudsmen’s report – “Many Armenian women remain silent about violence against them”

The Ombudsmen has recently presented his annual report in which a reference with separate subtitle on women’s rights was made.

We will represent some observations on women’s rights included in the report.

The Ombudsmen first refers to Armenia’s legislation and international treaties which oblige the state to provide equal opportunities for both sexes and exclude discrimination against women. The situation in Armenia, however, is not encouraging.

“During 2014, there were again many cases of violations of women’s rights and discrimination against women. The main reason is stereotypical attitudes towards women as well as the lack of various legal mechanisms, and inadequate response of law enforcement bodies to the cases of violation of women’s rights”, – said the Ombudsmen.
