No woman should die in the 21st century giving another life to someone else
Every day 800 women die during pregnancy or giving birth to a child around the world. Almost every minute a family is devastated from the loss of mother. According to data of World Health organization, every year 350 thousand women die during pregnancy or childbirth. Moreover, almost all of them (99%) live in poor and developing countries and many lives could have been saved. It should be noted that these disturbing figures of maternal mortality are 47% improved as compared to 2000, when within the framework of Millenium Development Goals all the countries of the world committed to reduce maternal mortality by 75%.
From 90s to 2014, in Armenia maternal mortality rate is declining from year to year. For twenty years, only in 2000 we have had a very high mortality rate – 25 cases, 2008-2009 – 15 cases. Over the past two years, 2013-2014, 8 cases of maternal mortality have been registered.
Within the frame of Millennium Goals RA Government has planned to reduce maternal mortality rate until 2015.
