Let’s ask at what extent our food is safe

Message of UN Secretary-General on World Health Day

 

Food contaminated with bacteria, viruses, parasites or chemicals, causes more than 200 diseases, ranging from diarrhea to cancer. New hazards threatening food safety are constantly coming up. Changes in food production, distribution and consumption, emergence of resistant bacteria, increase of travel and expansion of trade volume make difficult to control pathogens and pollutants, when they are in our food chain. The danger of food is a global problem which is largely ignored and poorly covered. When food supply chain stretches around the world, strengthening of food safety systems become even more critical.
