There are 502 communities in Armenia, only 7 of which are headed by women
As a result of the large-scale municipal elections held on November 5, 325 communities were merged in 34 boulevards. According to the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development, after the enlargement, 502 communities are currently registered in Armenia. Only seven of them are headed by women, which is 1.4%.
Lyudmila Petrova, head of Dvin community of Ararat region, Susanna Gevorgyan – head of Arecshatat community of Armavir region, Anahit Davtyan – head of Artamet community, head of Geghakar community of Gegharkunik region Karine Martirosyan, head of Bazum community of Lori region Srbuhi Harutyunyan, head of Kotayk Nor Yerznka community Alina Harutyunyan and head of Amasia Community of Shirak region Jemma Harutyunyan, the only woman in charge of a large community. Two of the community leaders, Susanna Gevorgyan and Alina Harutyunyan have more than 20 years of community leadership experience.
There are no women community heads in four regions of Armenia: Aragatsotn, Tavush, Vayots Dzor and Syunik. No city is governed by a woman. It should be reminded that according to 2016, 17 out of 793 Armenian communities were headed by women, which was 2.02%. Women, in essence, are driven out of the hot polls in the enlarged communities or are not even nominated for at the very beginning.
