Opening March of the 16 Days Campaign
The Coalition to Stop Violence against Women will go on a march to kick off the 16 days campaign. The route will start from Kasyan St. (near Mergelyan Institute) and continue to Barekamutyun metro station, Baghramyan Avenue, Opera House, Freedom Square, Northern Avenue. The final destination is the Government building, where the members of the Coalition will pass a letter to the Prime Minister demanding the adoption of the law on domestic violence. The march will be accompanied by the “Hegharitmer” female drummers. The slogan of this year’s 16 days’ campaign is “From peace in the family to the peace in the world.”

Press Conference on the 16 Days Campaign
The United Nations in Armenia in cooperation with the Government, international community and civil society will host a press conference dedicated to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Social Issues, Police, the Coalition to Stop Violence against Women are expected to speak at the conference. Representatives of the EU Delegation, U.S. and UK embassies, Council of Europe and OSCE in Armenia will also make opening remarks. The press conference will be followed by an award ceremony of the winners of the “My Daughter” contest run by UNFPA in partnership with Mediamax. A photo exhibition by the 4Plus Documentary Photography Centre, dedicated to the theme of the day, will also open on the same day at the UN house.

“From Princess to Slave” exhibition
Women’s Resource Center will hold a photo exhibition “From Princess to Slave” of works of Anahit Hayrapetyan at Studio 20 (House of Art, 13 Hrachya Kochar St.), which serves as a space for discussion, reflection, sharing and creativity, and aims to provide a collaborative and informal platform for intimate gatherings, discussions, reflection, information exchange and production. The book of photos of Anahit Hayrapetyan will be presented.

Public Lectures on Gender Inequality in Armenia
Oxfam will organize public lectures/ seminars with Q&A extended sessions on gender inequality in Armenia with the main focus on economic, social and political participation inequality for women in Armenia. During the lectures the films will be scanned and discussion of the gender inequality practices will be facilitated. The main topics of discussion will be political participation of women, nutrition – access to healthy food, and economic empowerment of women-opportunities, challenges.

Training for Women
The “Society Against Violence” NGO will organize training entitled “Empowerment and Leadership as a Preventive Mechanism for Domestic Violence” for women, which will take place at AEON (3A Teryan St.).
Exhibition
Open-air exhibition of the photos of children victims of domestic violence will be organized by the Women’s Rights Center, in the Northern Avenue, “Russia” theatre and Garegin Njdeh square.

The Coalition to Stop Violence against Women will travel to Ijevan for a public awareness raising initiative, including an action of shoes exhibition displaying the domestic violence victims’ stories and set-up of informational desks with programs of the organizations involved in the Coalition.

Public Viewing of the “Iron Jawed Angels”
The Coalition to Stop Violence against Women will organize a public viewing of the movie “Iron Jawed Angels” at the Mirzoyan Library (10 Mher Mkrtchyan St.). The movie tells the story of the 1917 Women’s Suffrage movement fight for future generations right to vote and run for office. The screening will be followed by a discussion.

The Coalition to Stop Violence against Women will organize a press lunch with a group of journalist and experts from the Coalition to discuss domestic violence in Armenia.

The “Human Factor” Talk Show on Armenia TV will speak about domestic violence in Armenia. Representatives of the Government, civil society, and international community will discuss the issue and present their viewpoints on the current situation in Armenia and how it can be improved.

Press Lunch for Journalists
The “Real World, Real People” NGO will organize performances with the help of professional actors in the streets in the crowded streets with scenes of domestic violence, where the husband beats his wife to see the reaction of the public. Those who will react and help the woman will be given a symbolic prize. The goal of the performance is to explain and raise awareness on domestic violence. The scenes will be captured with hidden cameras, which will be turned into a short form to be presented during the concluding press conference on 10 December.

As part of the Women, Peace and Security Club, Women’s Resource Center will organize a screening of the “My Grandma’s Tattoos” documentary at the Green Bean Café (10 Amiryan St.).

“Equal” photo exhibition
Oxfam organizes the photo contest and exhibition “Equal” with the operational title “We Are for Gender Equality in Armenia”, which will be exhibited in Yerevan from December 2 -4 in Hay Art centre (7a Mashtoc St.). Event will be launched with a press conference where Oxfam spokesperson will open the event and call for equal opportunity for women and men in Armenia.
2 – 10 December
“We Are for Gender Equality in Armenia” on line action
Oxfam is planning to have an on line photo action to mark the 16 days of activism against gender based violence with participation of celebrities, who are featured in a way to voice out the message of the Oxfam for Gender equality in Armenia. These photos will be largely promoted in social media and will call people to post their own photos with the same message.

24 Hour Theatre Performances
EVN 24 Hour Theatre in collaboration with the United Nations Office in Armenia, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Armenia, as well as Women’s Support Center and Women’s Resource Center will present a set of theatre performances focusing on domestic violence, gender equality and trafficking in women, and will be played in Armenian or English, depending on the participants of the play. 24 hour theatre is an experimental form of theatre where writers, directors and actors create, rehearse, and perform short, usually between 10-15 minutes, one-act plays that are created in a span of 24 hours. The final performances will
be staged at Hamazgayin Theatre. The entire production process will be covered live on the EVN 24 Hour Theatre page in Facebook.

Women’s Resource Center will organize an open roundtable discussion about HIV/AIDS that will focus on its modes of transmission and what makes women more vulnerable towards HIV. The discussion will take place at the Women’s Resource Center (62 Teryan St., apt. 35).

Interactive Performance Talk Show “Why is the Stork Complaining?”
United Nation’s Population Fund (UNFPA) will organize an interactive performance played in a form of a talk show, where the main guest is the Stork, who complains about the shrinking numbers of orders, future unemployment and threats to migrate to Africa, where the rates of fertility are higher. The performance covers issues of sexual and reproductive health, family planning, contraception, spacing and other issues. The main characters include Ms. Manushak, Garnik the Shepherd, Santa Claus, Storks’ Rights Defender, and others. The performance will take place at Vanadzor Pedagogical University.

“Ne’s Journey” puppet show performance
United Nations Children’s Fund (UNFPA) in partnership with UNIMA Armenia will stage a puppet show performance titled “Ne’s Journey”, which is unfolding around Ne, Daughter of the Sea, the Girl Child Symbol – an imaginary character created by UNFPA Armenia young volunteers. The performance is based on fairy tales of various nations and is aimed at showing the importance of gender equality, stressing the value of the girl child, and helping to address the problem of sex selection in Armenia. The performance will take place at Yerevan. Puppet Theater.

The United Nations in Armenia in cooperation with the EU Delegation, Council of Europe and OSCE will organize a barcamp on human rights – HuRiCamp. The event will take place at the American University of Armenia.
