16 Days Campaign: Orange the World
From November 25th/ International day of elimination of violence against women/ to December 10th different events will be held throughout the world within the framework of 16-days of activism against gender-based violence in order to attract the attention of the public to the problem of violence against women and girls. Let’s recall that the idea of the campaign was proposed by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership in 1991.
As a bright and optimistic color orange was chosen by the UN Secretary-General as a color symbolizing the campaign “Unite to end violence against women”. It calls for building a better future – a future free of violence and human rights violations which every third person in the world suffers from today.
Empire State Building, UN Secretariat building in New York and big screens of New York Square will be illuminated in orange within the framework of 16-day campaign.
The UN suggests joining the slogan of the campaign «Orange the world» and organizing orange events in your environment from November 25th to December 10th.
The UN Office in Armenia in cooperation with the Government, international community and civil society will hold a press conference on November 25th dedicated to the International day of elimination of Violence against women.
A press conference will be followed by the final award of the contest «My daughter» organized by United Nations Population Fund in collaboration with «Mediamax».
The event will take place on November 25th at 15:00 at UN office in Armenia.
