A discouraged single mother, Mildred Heis, goes out to fight alone against the city’s police, convinced that “law enforcement officers” are not particularly trying to find out the crime committed months ago against her teenage daughter who was brutally raped and killed. An angry woman, who was frustrated by law enforcement officials, hired billboards with harsh criticisms on police and Sheriff Billy Willow at the entrance to the city. This event is not unnoticed and a hot conflict between the woman and the city authorities soon begins…
“Three Billboards at the Ebbing Border, Missouri” is nominated for 7 Oscar Awards Ceremony on March 5th. In January this year, the film received four awards at the Golden Globe Award. In February, it won the BAFTA Award for Best Film in the UK. “In many cases our film helps people find hope, but at the same time it is a movie about anger and we have seen this year several times that anger often becomes the only way people are forced to listen to someone else’s opinion and change, so we’re delighted that BAFTA called our movie the best, “said Martin Mc Donah, film director.
He says the idea of the film was born about twenty years ago when he was travelling by bus in some South American state and saw a text on the billboard. “Then I saw another one. There was anger, pain in the words. Right now I do not remember well what exactly was written on those boards.. But the messages of those panels made a great impression on me. For about ten years, I did not do anything about this subject, but the thought of pain that forced those people to do that would not leave me calm.
