Changes in the Law “On Refugees and Asylum”

Draft package on making amendments and changes to RA Laws “On Refugees and Asylum” and “On State Duty” has lately been submitted by the first hearing at the RA National Assembly.

According to the reporter, Deputy Chief of the Police Vardan Eghiazaryan, the nessesity of bills is conditioned by provisions of UN Convention “On Refugee Status” of 1951, which Armenia joined in 1993. Particularly, pursuant to Articles 27 and 28 a refugee shall be granted an identity certificate in a state territory and a convention travel document – for travelling outside that territory.

“As a result of adopting the bills, a person having refugee status, will be granted an identification card by police, and can be used as a document certifying his person in the area of RA. Convention travel document will be provided on the basis of identification card and will mainly serve for travelling – leaving the country and coming back.
