Local elections – 2021. Nominations have started, there are no nominees / completed
Local elections will be held in a number of communities of Armenia on October 17, 2010. In 6 enlarged communities the elections will be held by the proportional system, and in these three villages by the majoritarian system.
Proportional local elections
According to the CEC, on October 17, regular elections of the councils of the communities will be held in the communities of Gyumri, Shirak region, Goris, Meghri, Tatev, Tegh, Syunik region, and Dilijan, Tavush region.
In 5 of the communities, the mayor and the council of elders will be elected for the first time through proportional elections, which means that the political forces will nominate the elections through voter lists. This also means that during all these proportional elections, the gender quota for candidates stipulated by the Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia will be at least 30/70.
According to the schedule of the main events of preparation for the regular elections to be held on October 17, the documents required for the nomination and registration of parties and party blocs are submitted to the relevant Territorial Electoral Commission from September 2 to September 12, at At 18:00.
The registration of the electoral lists of parties and party blocs in the relevant Territorial Electoral Commission is carried out from September 12 to September 17, at 18:00. The pre-election campaign will start on September 22 and end on October 15. The ballots will be printed on October 7-14.
Majoritarian local elections
Regular elections of the community head and council of elders are scheduled for October 17 in the villages of Shamiram of Aragatsotn region, Ferik of Armavir and Fioletovo of Lori region. Here the elections will be held by the majoritarian system, again in this case the gender quota will not work.
It should be reminded that this year the local elections will be held on October 17, November 14 and December 5. According to the Central Electoral Commission, the forthcoming elections will be the largest of their kind, taking into account the fact that last year no local elections were held due to the pandemic and martial law.
At its August 26 sitting, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) supplemented the previous decision to set voting days for regular local elections by setting December 5, 2021, as one voting day. This will allow the government to complete the process of enlarging the communities.
