Local elections 2018: 11 female candidates have won
In the March 11th elections, women were fighting in 10 communities – Azatamut in Tavush, Darbac of Lori Region, Darbnik, Yeghegnavan, Zorak, Hayanist, Nizami, Sayat-Nova, Sis, Sipanik villages of Ararat Region.
It should be noted that on March 1, after the expiration of the withdrawal period, the CEC informed that 15 out of 138 candidates in the Council of Elders were women. As a result of the election, 11 female candidates won. They got enough votes to be included in the Council of Elders in seven villages – Azatamut, Yeghegnavan, Zorak, Hayanist, Sis, Sipanik, Darasp, and did not succeed in Nizami, Sayat-Nova, Darbinnk communities.
It should be reminded that on March 11th regular elections of local self-government bodies were held in 19 communities of Aragatsotn, Ararat, Armavir, Lori, Kotayk and Shirak regions and an extraordinary election of council member in Azatamut community of Tavush marz. Only 4 communities out of 20 have held only community head elections, only 6 communities- councilors and in – 10 community members and community leaders will be elected simultaneously. Earlier we reported that there were no women among the 31 candidates nominated for the mayor’s posts in 14 communities.
