Local Elections: Only six out of 141 community leader candidates are women

 

Elections will be held on October 21st  in 49 communities of Aragatsotn, Ararat, Armavir, Gegharkunik, Lori, Kotayk, Shirak, Syunik and Tavush regions.

 

141 candidates are nominated for the post of community leader. There are only six women among them. Four of the candidates are nominated in three communities in Aramavir.

 

Thus, snap elections will be held in four cities of the republic – Kotayk regional center Hrazdan, Syunik regional center – Kapan, Armavir marz center – Armavir and Etchmiadzin. Only in these cities are women candidates.

Let’s remind that only 10 out of 502 community leaders are women, three of them are community leaders, in Hrazdan, Echmiadzin and Shahumyan poultry farm in the Armavir region. It is noteworthy that Hrazdan’s  acting mayor Lilit Stepanyan does not take part in snap elections in Hrazdan.

 

Among the 7 community leaders are Lyudmila Petrova, Head of Verin Dvin community in Ararat Marz, Head of Arevatsat Community of Susanna Gevorgyan and Head of Artamet community Anahit Davtyan, Karine Martirosyan, Head of Geghakar Community of Gegharkunik Region, Srbuhi Harutyunyan, Head of Lori Region Bazum community, Alina Harutyunyan, Head of Kotayk Nor Yerznka Community and the community head of Amasia, Shirak Region, Harutyunyan Jemma, the only woman to lead a large community.
