Slavery: when the main “heroes” are women
45.8 million people in the world live in conditions of slavery.
Susanna is African-American. She was living and “working” in Sydney. She used to spend her entire day to clean the house of the “employer”, doing laundry, taking care of children. Fearful that African-American woman could be seen the lady used to close her in home every week. Susan (changed name) had never thought that may appear in slavery.
“I can say that it was terrible. I was trapped behind the house when they were going out. At first I thought maybe they made a mistake and closed the door. But there was nothing wrong, they used to regularly shut the door on me”, – she told the Australian journalist.
She was brought from Africa to Sydney by the Australian employer. Upon arriving here, his attitude has changed dramatically. “He taught his children that I am nothing. They were opening my door and calling early in the morning. “Get up””: This wife worked 18 hours a day, sleeping under the dining room table, next to three dogs. She had only rice to eat during the day, and they took her passport from her hands. According to her, she did not know in what city, what street she lived. Once she was able to escape to a neighbor’s house who helped her and called the police.
According to the recently published “Global Slavery Index” report, 45.8 million people in the world live in conditions of slavery. The authors, Australian defenders, conducted a study in 25 countries, considering forced labor, human trafficking, debt bondage, child abuse, forced marriage as slavery,. 60% of people living in conditions of slavery lived in five countries: China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Uzbekistan.
