Names of female MPs are known: they are 18
Today during the special session Central Election Commission published a report on registration of MPs of the National Assembly and granting of mandates to them. Accordingly, 18 or 105 members the of the National Assembly or 17% are women, including one woman passed from the list of representatives of ethnic minorities and only one elected from the regional list.
Let’s recall that at the previous National Assembly women represented constituted 10% and the outcome of this election could be a step ahead if it were not expectations confirmed by the Electoral Code, at least 25 per cent female representation quota that are actually again not justified. In this regard, in Gyumri and Vanadzor elections quota even worked much more efficiently, providing 24% of municipal councilors are women.
In contrast to previous elections when women lacked because of withdrawals this time the main reason was the so-called territorial or rating system, where women simply dropped out because of the race between wealthy men.
