Goal 4 – Quality education for everybody
The fourth goal of sustainable development is about providing quality education
– Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning opportunities
According to UNESCO, about 140 million school-age children and adolescents do not have an opportunity of studying, and more than 750 million adults cannot read and write, and two thirds of them are women.
A meeting entitled “Education first of all” took place on September 26th in New York UN Headquarters gathering world leaders and education sphere activists. The main topic of the meeting was Ban ki Moon’s initiative with the same name.
This initiative is an integral part of new sustainable development agenda. The initiative suggests to solve three priority issues of education field by 2030, that is creating conditions of education for all children, improving quality of education and upbringing global scale civil liability.
Honorary guests of the event were as follows – China’s first lady, Special Envoy of UNESCO dealing with education of women and girls, Pen Liuyan, as well as Human rights activists Malala Yusufzai and Kaylash Satartxi, who have been awarded Nobel Prize. They all agreed that education is the main driving force for ensuring sustainable development and creating more conscious society.
