New life referral for women survivors of violence
Due to the Project “Promoting gender equality and gender based violence survivors’ Rights” 130 women in Yerevan, Lori and Syunik regions received financial support to start their own business. Thanks to the financial support of women have been able to successfully establish their own business and continue to develop it. Dressmaking, hairdressing, confectionary, shoe manufacturing – sectors are diverse.
The program is implemented in the United Kingdom by the Near East Foundation and Gegharkunik Chamber of Commerce. Effectiveness and impact of the initiative on women’s lives in Yerevan were shown during the presentation of the project beneficiaries. The exhibition was aimed at introducing non-governmental organizations and other interested parties can use to economic empowerment programs to promote the rights of victims of violence, gender equality and economic independence.
“The program aims to increase women’s confidence, giving them the ability to make decisions and choices,” says program director Arpine Baghdoyan. The project promoted formation of gender equality system and gender violence prevention by employers and other stakeholders”.
