UNICEF: security of schools 27 years after the earthquake
On December 11th Yerevan hosted the second annual “Activate talks” event of the United Nations Children’s Fund, which had slogan “Knowledge in the name of life” and was dedicated to school safety. 6 speakers introduced the topic from different perspectives – Government, public sector, children, school leadership, as well as architecture and construction. The UN Children’s Fund Armenian representative Tanya Radochay, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Emergency situations Haykaram Mkhitaryan and RA Deputy Minister of Urban Development Armen Ghalaryan in their welcoming speeches highlighted the reforms of the sphere and stressed the importance of every citizen in risk reduction and creation of safe environment.
“Activate talks” event format was developed by the UN Children’s Fund in 2014 on the occasion of 25th anniversary of the Convention on Child rights playing a unifying role so that governments, civil society, private sector, academic institutions and others can discuss solutions to problems faced by the children who are in the most vulnerable situations.
