The Ombudsman alarms about dangerous condition of 209 children
The Ombudsman’s office has issued a statement which warns that № 16 special school which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and Science is in an extreme condition. 209 children with serious health or visual impairments study here, 80 of them stay overnight there. The Ombudsman had warned Armen Ahotyan about the extremely bad conditions of the school, but it is clear that no necessary steps have been taken to solve the problems.
By the way, in November of this year the school administration illegally impeded the monitoring of the Ombudsman’s representatives presumably to conceal many unacceptable problems at school. Only after the official correspondence of the Minister of Education about the incident, representatives of the Ombudsman could have access to this special school with poor conditions.
Back to 2014, the Minister of Education and science informed the Ombudsman that the money was allocated from state reserved budget to compile pre- reports. But we can definitely say that the situation continues to remain the same. The only progress which was recorded during one year is that expired medicine has not been found there, as well as conditions in the school kitchen have partially been improved.
