Migration in the world and in Armenia
December 18 is International Migrants Day.
On 18 December 1990, the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Protection of the Rights of Migrant Workers and their Families. On December 4, 2000, the UN established the International Migrants Day (International Migrants Day), which is celebrated on December 18.
Experts estimate that every 35th inhabitant of the Earth’s population is migrant who lives and works outside their country. According to the International Organization for Migration, the migration trends observed in recent years, the number of migrants in 2050 could reach 405 million. International Organization for Migration (IOM) was established in the resettlement of refugees after World War II. IOM within its mandate aims to protect the rights of migrants, refugees and displaced persons. These days IOM announced campaign “I am migrant”, which means all those who have a desire can assist migrants, whose number has reached 244 million. The organization emphasizes the mutual development of the new opportunities that arise from the migrants’ countries of origin and reception.
