The only monument in honor of women who participated in the war
Monument in honor of women having participated in the World War II is in the center of London, in Whitehall Street leading from the British Parliament building to Trafargalyan square. Perhaps it is the only monument that focuses on women’s collective heroism during the war – in the battlefield and the rear.
The memorial is dedicated to all the British women, who during World War II, with their selfless work in the rear and fought in the armed forces, have made their own contribution to the fight against fascism. During the war, Britain had around 640 thousand women serving in the armed forces. Overall, the war dramatically changed the lives of 7 million British women who worked behind replacing men who had left for the battlefield.
The author of the monument is John Millz. There are no images of women on the Black plate, only there are only uniforms that symbolize the work done by women during the war, whether on the battlefield or in the rear…
