Municipal elections launched in Yerevan

On May 14th, municipal elections will be held in Yerevan, which will be held under the proportional system. After the change of the Constitution elections of the City Council are second general elections by importance. From March 30th the Central Electoral Commission has started the process of registration of participants of the elections, which will last 2 more days –  until April 9th . At the moment, no party or alliance has  submitted documents for registration, only three clearly announced their participation. The Republican Party, which today announced that their list will be headed by Taron Margaryan again, “Tsarukyan” and “Way out” alliances. The remaining forces are still waiting.

 

Although we have never had a woman Mayor, it is likely that this time a female candidate will run for the position of leader of the capital. Former member of “Heritage” party,  MP Zaruhi Postanjyan  -from 2007 until today, who announced in mid-March about creating party “Purple Earth”  is likely to take part in municipal elections and top the list. Mrs. Postanjyan does not open the cards, but does not deny such rumors, saying that considers to run as a candidate for mayor for  the upcoming municipal elections.
