Armenia human rights record discussed at UN
Armenia’s second Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on the country’s accomplishments and existing challenges in human rights was discussed Thursday in Geneva, Switzerland, at the session of the UPR Working Group of the UN Human Rights Council.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ashot Hovakimian was heading the Armenian delegation at the meeting.
Hovakimian presented the report, and the process of fulfillment of the human rights obligations which Armenia had assumed. The other members of the delegation spoke about the respective situation in their domains.
In addition, the Armenian delegation responded to the questions posed by the UN member states, and reflected on the matters that were raised in the alternative reports that were presented.
Representatives from 71 countries delivered remarks within the framework of the Armenia UPR. The discussion of the UPR will be followed by the adoption of the recommendations and report by the countries. The UPR Working Group is scheduled to adopt the recommendations of Armenia at 17.00 on 27 January.
Armenia’s first Universal Periodic Review was held in 2010.
