The UN new ambitious agenda – to end poverty in the world by 2030
Within the framework of the UN 70th session the UN Summit on Sustainable Development will be held in the UN New York headquarters from September 25 to 27 with participation of more than 150 heads of states around the world. The latter will officially adopt the final document on sustainable development new agenda.
The agenda, which includes 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs), is aimed at elimination of poverty by 2030, promotion of prosperity and human welfare, while preserving the environment. New Sustainable Development Goals replace the eight Millennium Development Goals adopted in 2000.
The preface of the 29-page document entitled “Transforming our world: Sustainable development agenda – 2030, says: “We are committed to relieving poverty in this generation, and want to heal and preserve our planet for the present and future generations”. Then it says: “We are determined to take necessary and immediate special measures bringing changes to the world, in order to make the world move to a sustainable path. At the beginning of this joint journey, we promise that no one will be ignored.
The final document emphasizes elimination of poverty as a universal goal of the new development agenda and the core is the completion of social, economic and environmental dimensions. New development agenda is unique in the sense that it calls on all countries to the action /poor, rich, middle-income/. Starting this joint trip, Member States have pledged that no one will be overlooked. The large-scale content of the new agenda is reflected through 5 P-s –PEOPLE, PLANET, PROSPERITY, PEACE, and PARTNERSHIP.
Sustainable development 17 goals and 169 targets aim at eliminating such key system obstacles to sustainable development as inequality, unsustainable patterns of production and consumption, inadequate infrastructure and lack of decent employment.
