The next Secretary General of the UN, Antonio Guterrishe

 

United Nations Secretary General is the former Prime Minister of Portugal, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterishe. The UN Security Council voted unanimously for his nomination. After Guterrishi appointment must be approved by the General Assembly.

 

67-year-old Guterrishe in 1995-2002 was the Portuguese Prime Minister, in 2005-2015 – a member of the United Nations High Commissioner,  Guterrishe is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon on Refugees.

 

In the position of High Commissioner for Refugees Guterrishe demonstrated himself in  the best possible way, as experts point out, the agency’s abilities to respond to international crises improved during his tenure. Guterrishe constantly urged governments in developed and wealthy countries to provide more funds for victims of natural disasters and conflicts. According to the BBC- quoting UN sources familiar Guterrishi work style, he is able to revitalize the United Nations, which has never need structure.
