UN Office in Armenia strongly condemns the recent cases of violence against women, which was widely echoed in the mass media and social networks.

“In one case 37-year-old woman on November 25th  of 2016 was fatally injured by close friend, in another case, on November 26th of 2016 a woman was brutally beaten by her husband in broad daylight, near many passers-by in Pushkin street”,- said a statement released by the UN office, pointing. “It is brutal and ironic that these events occurred at a time when the United Nations, international partners, in collaboration with national authorities and civil society, mark the 16-day campaign against gender violence, which is celebrated every year  from November 25th  to  of December 10th“.

Domestic violence is serious violation of human rights and must be a priority not only for law enforcement, but also for every citizen of our society to hold the perpetrators to be accountable for it. Indifference is just as unacceptable as the crime itself, and the United Nations decided to make its own mission  to ensure that similar incidents do not remain unpunished”, – the statement reads.
