India. It is recommended to remove the prohibition on announcing the sex of the fetus

 

India’s Minister of Women and Children Development Maneka Gandhi suggested earlier this year that all parents must pass a test to determine the sex of the unborn child. In his view, the law prohibiting tests to determine the sex of unborn child is not effective and does not allow terminating abortion if a large number of practices just because the parents want a boy.

 

It should be noted that in India, parents and doctors may face up to 5 years imprisonment for doing or making a request for a prenatal test. However, the tests and subsequent abortions are still spread.

 

Maneka Gandhi who is opposition leader Sonia Gandhi’s daughter-in-law thinks that more effective strategy would be to determine the sex of the fetus from the very beginning and then follow the process. “How long are we going to make criminals of people, as long as we put all the responsibility on Sonographists. My point of view is why not to change the current policy. Every pregnant woman must know she will have a boy or a girl, “said Gandhi.

 

“When a woman becomes pregnant, she must be registered and in that way you will be able to follow to the end, whether she gave birth to the child or what happened to her, – she said during one of her speeches.
