NGOs demand a parliamentary session to discuss the situation
On July 28th about two dozen non-governmental organizations applied to the National Assembly calling for an extraordinary Parliament session. In their joint statement civil society organizations condemn the inaction of the National Assembly, stressing the need for convening an extraordinary session. “The tension is rising, while the National Assembly and its elected MPs are enjoying their summer vacation”, – the statement said.
“In the last days in the republic, especially in Yerevan, tense and explosive situation was created connected with unpredictable consequences of an armed attack on the regiment of the Police Patrol Service (SPS) by Sasna Tsrer group on July 17, and the events followed by it.
Thousands of citizens went out to the streets in support of “Sasna Tsrer” group and their demands, as the systemic corruption, social injustice, selective justice, unstoppable migration and falsified elections have made all hopes illusion to expect positive changes. The police used excessive force and violence, as a result of which spontaneous peaceful gatherings of citizens were brutally dispersed, and hundreds of man were arrested.
Tension is gradually rising, while the eleventh day, the president has not addressed to the people and the National Assembly and its elected MPs enjoy their summer holidays.
Hereby we, the undersigned civil society organizations, condemn the inexcusable and unacceptable inaction of the National Assembly and call to use the right to invite an extraordinary special session of the National Assembly to discuss the situation and find ways for peaceful solutions.
