Heghine Bisharyan: “”The important thing is the will of the parties, if they wish, they will include greater number of women”

“The law is not necessary for the political teams, but the will to include women in their lists. Here the problem is that the decision is more political than legal, – “Rule of Law faction Heghine Bisharyan said.

In an interview with WomenNet.am she told us that she is ready to support that gender ratio of 30/70 in the electoral lists of parties in order to already apply during the next elections. “But we must understand that it depends on the political will of the majority to vote in favor of this initiative,” said the MP.

In Bisharyan’s opinion the most important factor in increasing women’s representation in parliament is the political will, that is, if they want, they will include greater number of women. “Before, the law a set ratio of 20/80, within its frame women’s names were only written in  lists but the result remained,” Bisharyan said.

Another problem that will prevent an increase in the number of women in parliament is that the number of seats has reduced, and this allows us to assume that the increase in competition within the political parties will occur and women tend to be less involved than before. “Anyhow at least it shows the logic of the past years,” he said.
