Hasmik to seek justice at the European Court of Human Rights
Being subjected to violence for nine years by her husband the life of Hasmik Khachatryan – mother of two children changed from the moment two years ago when she found the strength to escape from her husband’s house at night to save her own life and to assert her rights.
But her husband having beaten and tortured her wife was not imprisoned. The Court of First Instance of Gegharkunik region sentenced to 1.5 years of imprisonment and amnestied Sargis Hakobyan – accused of torturing his wife was released. Hasmik Khachatryan decided to file a complaint against that judgment to the European Court of Human Rights / Human Rights /.
On this occasion WomenNet-is talking to a lawyer of Women’s Support Center, Hasmik Khachatryan’s attorney Nona Galstyan, adding that so far there have been no court applications by victims of domestic violence. Hasmik Khachatryan’s case is the first in this regard.
