The welfare of the child in the society is directly proportional to the social role of the woman. Research
On October 11, on the occasion of International Girls’ Day, World Vision Armenia presented the study “Strong Women, Strong Children”. The problem of gender inequality is one of the main reasons for the vulnerability of children, the welfare of the child is directly related to the social role of the mother. The aim of the research is to reveal the factors of women’s empowerment and child welfare in Armenia, to show how the socio-demographic situation of women and their empowerment in the society affect the welfare of children. The research was conducted in the program areas of World Vision Armenia with the participation of 11-17-year-old children and their mothers.
The survey found that only 1% of women surveyed in Armenia are empowered by all socio-economic and educational factors. According to the norms typical of a patriarchal society, the opportunities for women to make independent decisions in our country, control over economic assets are low.
16% of women surveyed are subjected to various forms of violence. There are still many who accept gender-based violence as a norm (37% of women surveyed).
Regarding violence against children, 43% of the surveyed children are subjected to violence and exploitation, especially by mothers and friends. 17% of children have heard of sexual violence in their community, and 13% have heard of cases of violence online.
According to the research, education in Armenia is the most important factor contributing to the empowerment of women. Women with higher education are more likely to enjoy freedom of movement and will not be subject to gender restrictions.
The results of the research show that the well-being of women and children is generally low, as only 1% of women and children have the above-mentioned well-being criteria, which suggests that there is a direct link between mother and child and well-being.
