The manuscript was saved by two women

The Ode to Eternity Monument erected in Yerevan.  A sculpture dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Armenian printing was unveiled in Yerevan on April 23. The monument is situated in Yerevan downtown, the author is French Armenian sculptor Davit Yerevantsi.

 

It symbolizes the story of the oldest manuscript of Matenadaran – “Msho charentir” (“Mush Homiliarium”).

 

The book was saved by two women survivors  of the Armenian Genocide who found the manuscript in a ruined monetary and brought to Eastern Armenia. Since the book was very large, they divided it into 2 parts.

 

Yerevantsi portrayed the two women with the manuscript in their hand.

 

“I want this statue to become a symbol of fait for the Armenian people,” said the sculptor. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan  and Minister of Culture Hasmik Pogosyan attended the opening ceremony.
