60% of the population in Armenia daily receives 2100 cal. stand below
Although in Armenia only 32% of population are poor, but 60% consume less food stand than 2100; that means that population is undernourished. The number of families having more than 3 children is especially high in the share of undernourished population.
The cost of the minimum food basket in our country per capita is 32 727.5 AMD on monthly basis. Let’s remind that the minimum food basket contains 11 food items required for adult human body.
In 2013 the upper poverty line was 39 193 AMD while the lower poverty line was 32 318 AMD. Those with less monthly income are considered to be “very poor”. According to National Statistical Service they make 13.3% of population.
2.7% of population is extremely poor as their monthly income is less than the food poverty line which in 2013 amounted 22 993 AMD. In this case people are considered to be “undernourished” starving.
