As a result of community enlargement the number of women community council members has decreased
On February 14th self-governmental elections took place in three enlarged communities- Dilijan, Tatev, Tumanyan. As a result, there were no women among community leaders, even among candidates, and among elected members the number of elected women has decreased three times as compared to their number before the enlargement.
The fact that there were no women among the candidates, evidences that previously all communities were headed by men, consequently as a result of these elections the number of women community council members was not expected to be changed.
What about the change in the number of members, among the unified communities there were 15 women, which makes up 8,9%. Among the enlarged communities only one women was elected which makes only 2,8%. This means that regress in terms of women’s representation is obvious.
