Central Electoral Commission registers 8 presidential candidates: there are no women among them
Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has registered eight presidential candidates, head of CEC Tigran Mukuchyan said during the meeting on Monday.
Finally, eight candidates out of 15, who had initially submitted nominations, have been registered. They are incumbent president Serzh Sargsyan, leader of Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian, chairman of Freedom Party Hrant Bagratyan, head of opposition National Self-Determination Union (NSU) Paruyr Hayrikyan , foreign Karabakh FM Arman Melikyan, unemployed epos specialist Vardan Sedrakyan, head of National Accord party Aram Harutunyan and director of Radio Hay Andreas Ghukasyan.
7 candidates, including one woman ` head of national press club Narine Mkrtchyan wire not able to pay election pledge.
The campaign will kick off on January 21. The election is scheduled for February 18.
