Violence against women and girls continues to be a major concern worldwide
On the launch of the 16-day campaign government representatives and international organizations issued a joint conference on gender violence. The UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Bradley Bradley read the joint statement on the occasion of the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, the United Kingdom and the US Embassy.
In his speech, the acting head of the EU Delegation Dirk Lorenz noted that the equality of men and women is one of the fundamental values of the European Union. “Violence against women and girls continues to be a major problem within the European Union, and around the world. We want to see progress in this regard in the European Union and Armenia. That is why we support the EU budget programs in the field of human rights in Armenia and the authorities in combating violence against women and girls in civil society. And we look forward to the adoption of a law against domestic violence”.
The Prime Minister’s assistant Aram Vardevanyan said that the rights under the principle of equality of men and women are represented in our legislation, and after the recent constitutional reforms that provision clearly formulated as a separate constitutional norm.
