Women in self-governmental elections: Comments on nominations

Constitutional referendum campaign has left a shadow on self-governmental elections designated on the same day – December 6^th.

In general, elections will be held on December 6^th in 34 communities of Aragatsotn, Armavir, Gegharquniq, Lori, Shirak, Syuniq. In 27 communities they should elect a community leader but only in two of them there are women registered among the candidates.

The number of woman candidates for women cannot decrease but it may decrease instead. This prediction is based on a bitter experience of previous local elections, when women candidates very often are nominated just in a formal way, just to meet the requirements of law, according to which two women must be nominated.

On the same day elections of community council members will be held in 8 communities of Gegharquniq, Lori, Shirak, Syuniq. In these elections women are relatively more active.
