Women, employment and economy: macroeconomic benefits of gender equality

 

Because of existing gender inequality in the economy great losses occur, particularly GDP per capita loses by 27%. Increasing women’s participation in the economy it is possible to significantly improve macroeconomic indicators, including GDP per capita, – says Head of Yerevan office of International Monetary Fund Tereza Daban Sanches, who represented benefits of women’s economic empowerment for the development of the whole world and each country during her speech at the International Conference “New Development Perspective”

 

Speaker expressed her concern that although women make more than 50% of the world population their participation in the economy is lower than that of men. It refers not only to entrepreneurship but also employment in gerenal.  Only half of capable women are involved in the labor market, whereas men’s participation is greater. Ot is a huge difference, – he says, adding that in different countries it can be different, but there is a tendency of increase of women’s participation in labor market around the world.
