Equality as a recipe for increasing the birth rate
Create a situation that having children is not considered a risk for the family’s well-being and provide opportunities to combine family and professional responsibilities, to support women who after having a baby want to maintain their competitiveness in the labor market – this is modern recipe of increasing the birthrate by presentation of the UN Population Fund Executive representative Garik Hayrapetyan. According to him, this way the Nordic countries managed to bring birth rate from 1.4 to 1.9 in 25 years.
An opportunity to address the decline of birth rate in Armenia was a conference on the occasion of World Population Day, during which the results of “Armenia’s population situational analysis” study were presented. It was carried out by the United Nations Population Fund, part of the “Support to Implementation of Population Policies” program. According to the UN Population Fund Executive Representative Garik Hayrapetyan and “Support to Implementation of Population Policies” project coordinator Anna Hovhannisyan research aimed at a comprehensive and combined representation with the current trends of population and reproductive health and their connections and their impact on the country’s development.
