The number of women managing parliaments increased almost 3-times over 10 years
Since 2005 the number of women speakers of the parliaments of the world has increased from 19 to 52. This was announced by the International Conference of Speakers of Parliaments woman held in UAE capital Abu Dhabi.
“The conference of the Parliament women speakers which was first held in 2005, since that time it has become the a global summit of parliamentarians given that from the 11 years the number of women managers has increased from 19 to 52 in the world’s parliaments”,- said the president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Saber Chowdury.
This week Abu Dhabi hosts the two-day XI International Conference “Future Reconsideration. New trends in the formation of the world” of Women Speakers of the Parliaments. Among the participants were female heads of legislative bodies and members from more than 50 countries. One of the central themes of the Forum was the task of ensuring the advancement of women in the economy.
Itb should be noted that according to the IPU data, in 2015 9 out of all presidents of 152 countries of the world were women (6%), 20 years ago there were only three presidents. Only 15 of Prime Ministers of the 193 country are women (8%), while 20 years ago they were twice less. But in Armenia women never occupied leadership positions.
